Reaction to the Santorum Campaign’s Suspension

I am deeply saddened by Senator Santorum’s decision to withdraw from the race. I truly believe he would be a great leader for this country, and I regret that he will not be bringing his Conservative values to the White House.

So, now that I am 0-2 this Primary season, I think it is time to turn our attention to November. The Primary process is now ending and we must rally behind one candidate, whoever it may be, to ensure the defeat of Barack Obama in the Fall.

I am not a big fan of Mitt Romney, I will gladly admit it. I have been uneasy with his Etch-A-Sketch politics and I know many people, especially true Conservatives, do not have solid confidence in him. However, we must understand that ANYONE will be better than Obama. We can still fight through the Primary until the Convention, but once the nominee is chosen, Romney or not, we MUST rally behind him. If we fail to do so, we assuredly give the election to Obama. Not ‘effectively,’ not ‘probably,’ but assuredly. The Primary process is the time for the party to choose the nominee we want. If the people have chosen Romney, so be it. Romney is Pro-Life, Obama is not. Romney at least has the good sense to belong to the ‘right’ party, even if he does not always act the way we want him to.

So today, I do not announce by endorsement of Mitt Romney, but for the GOP’s chosen nominee. Yes, there is still time and possibility for it to be someone other than Obama, and I think it is ok to fight for that. However, those chances are slim, and we must all realize that we have to support Romney if he is the winner – end of story.

Romney can appeal to the left. He can appeal to the middle. We’ve got to suck it up and let him appeal to us.

It’s a tough pill to swallow, but we need the medicine.
